Reiki
As a Reiki Master Teacher, Hypnotherapist and Spiritual Counselor, I am frequently asked what energy work really is and whether it, in fact, works. Can we know that the unseen works in the physical world? I draw on my own experience, as well as that of other well-known therapists, when I tell my clients that nothing can work in the physical world until it has had its beginning in the invisible. Reiki is one of the oldest forms of such energetic healing work and is now becoming an accepted method of relief in many of our nation's hospitals.

Dr. Mikao Usui, a Christian Theologian, rediscovered Reiki in the middle 1800's in the Buddhist Sutras. Having been asked by his theology students if he could heal as Christ did and realizing that he could not, he resigned his position and started a quest to find the "keys" to healing. On a mountain, after 21 days of meditation and fasting, he had an experience in which these archetypal symbols came to him to teach him. These power-filled symbols lead the Reiki practitioner. The lineage of traditional Reiki extends from the Reiki Grand Master Dr. Mikao Usui, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata, a Japanese-American.

Reiki is the Japanese word meaning the life energy of the deepest part of one's self. The Usui System of Natural Healing through Reiki is a wholistic and natural system using gentle non-invasive touch in the areas of the body which govern every organ, gland, cell, muscle, nerve and blood circulation. It is a precise technique for balancing the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of the body.

Reiki can be used to reduce stress, resolve life issues, speed surgical healing, enhance traditional medicine and general well-being. Reiki goes to the "root" cause of distress or injury. It brings welcome nourishing changes and truth filled awareness in whatever way each person needs it and accepts it at the deepest part of themselves. It is not necessary to be part of a particular belief system to accept a Reiki treatment.

We are alive because energy, life force is flowing through us. It flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras or meridians. The life force energy is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when negative thoughts and feelings from various actions in life attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force - the "body-mind connection". When this flow is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.

Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears and heals the energy pathways allowing the life force to flow in a healthy, natural way. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance and has many benefits for both client and practitioner.

Distance is no barrier to Reiki. Not only can Reiki be sent to anyone in any place at any time, it can also bridge the time barrier. Reiki can be sent into the future so that it will be there when a person arrives at that time. Likewise, it can be sent into the past to heal a trauma.
